Bloggers can plug in a widget called “Seal” onto their own blog. “Seal” can be pictures, multimedia, or flash-animations that expresses their personal tastes or advocacies for certain causes. They can even create their own “Seal”. Also, “Seal” can network and share information concerning the interests of them through Tag-RSS and so on.
Solving discomforts of RSS.
The existing RSS was non-selective. If the customers tag a blogger, they have to get feedbacks of all the postings of the tagged blogger regardless of their interests. Also, the customer had to login to the registered RSS program in order to check the postings. However, Sealtale has developed a program called TAG RSS, which allows the users (bloggers who use the same Seal) to read the postings related to the respective Seal at their blogs without any bothersome login process. For example, if I’m using a TechCrunch Seal, I can read or receive the postings related to the TechCrunch of the other bloggers who are using TechCrunch Seals. Also, if I put up a posting about TechCrunch, my posting becomes updated to the Seal without any additional process, and other bloggers can see it.
Solving discomforts of Social Networking Service.
“Needless to create a new space or account in the web” As most people already have multiple blogs or SNS accounts, it can be bothersome to create a new space or account for networking. Sealtale has an advantage in that the user can continue to use the existing accounts while benefiting from the Seal just by plugging it in to the current space.“Seal is an omnipresent, omniapplicable widget” In Korea where portals are dominant, 70% of the blogs belong to the portals. The networking between blogs appertaining to different portals is impossible. Even in Social Networking Services outside Korea such as Facebook and MySpace, networking is possible only inside the boundary of each Social Networking Service. Sealtale let the users overcome this barrier through simple plugging-in. Through Sealtale, the user can network with any blog and any SNS, even with internet café, website, and communities, enjoying the SNS in more varied means.“SNS according to interest and inclination” The current SNSs are based and concentrated on continuing the offline relationships made from schools, regions, and other offline societies. The offline-based SNSs encourage much networking in the beginning. Yet, as they are limited to a continuation of offline “daily life” on the online, the users gradually tire of the same topic. Sealtale gives the users myriad opportunities to create online-based SNSs focused on the individual interest and inclination.Actually, while offline-based SNSs in Korea passed through periods of stagnation and declination after experiencing exponential growth, online-based SNSs such as communities and cafes are continuously loved and cherished by the public. Therefore, as long as the individual interest exists and the contents are created, such networking will continue to last.
Improvement of profile expression
The profiles in existing blogs or personal spaces are mostly texts. Not only is it inconspicuous but also un-international and un-cosmopolitan, impeding the networking between different nations and cultures by setting up language barriers in the web. Sealtale encourages the expression of self through images not texts. By expressing one’s ideas, interests and inclinations through images called Seal, the profile can be outstanding and understood at a glimpse. Seal can also be used as an accessory in the main page.
Innovation of the advertisement paradigm)
“The advertisement that the customers voluntarily create, participate and enjoy.” Unlike the despicable pop-ups, banners and spams, Sealtale skillfully dissolves the advertisement inside the solvent of self-expression and enjoyment. The user puts on the Seal in order to express oneself, and the Seal becomes an dvertisement the user loves and enjoys. For example, a user who is a Nintendo mania can attach a Seal showing he is a Nintendo mania. Through the Nintendo Seal, the user communicates with other Nintendo manias and derives happiness from it. Like thus, the user unwittingly loves and enjoys the advertisement he/she is doing to the visitors of the blog. Also, TAG RSS gives Nintendo Manias news, reviews and other information concerning Nintendo, making Nintendo Seal the forum of public opinions and sentiments about Nintendo. The postings these users make about Nintendo can become positive buzz or viral marketing device.
“The advertisement of the users, by the users, for the users”
‘Sealtale encouraged the citizens to express the peaceful message of the demonstrations via internet by holding an event “Let’s light the candles online.“Near 0 User Acquisition Cost and breakneck propagation speed.” Even before the opening of beta service, Sealtale encouraged the citizens to express the peaceful message of the demonstration via internet by holding an event “Let’s light the candles online.” This event attracted over 120,000 people in just two weeks, leading to issuing of 120,000 Seals. Through this occasion, we have witnessed how Seal can explosively spread through the existing SNSs like viruses without any other large scale advertisement or marketing.
